Beat Breakdown Mia Johnson
The FIZZ Radio is an internet radio station that plays retro pop and classic alternative music from the 80s, 90s and 2000s, with fun personality and radio features, streaming online, worldwide, 24/7. We’re a little bit quirky, a little bit retro, and a whole lot of fun. We play the music that makes you want to sing along, dance around, and maybe even spill your drink (it happens to the best of us). Think retro pop hits and classic alternative goodies from artists like Weezer, Fountains of Wayne, OK Go, Genesis, Poe, Pearl Jam, and much more.
The FIZZ Radio playlist is built from Hurricane Andrew’s colossal CD collection of Power pop, College Rock, Alternative, Indie, and niche songs from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. The FIZZ is not your average radio station. We’re a little bit quirky, a little bit retro, and a whole lot of fun. We play the music that makes you want to sing along, dance around, and maybe even spill your drink (it happens to the best of us).
We like to dig past the most popular tunes and go deeper into an artist’s catalog. But we’re not music on shuffle. Host, JY Kelley, a radio pro with an alphabet of call letters under his belt, infuses The FIZZ Radio with personality that’s fun, upbeat, humorous, and a little bit irreverent. Produced station imaging keeps the momentum moving forward and DJ’s talk up the song ramps in the style of CHR hit radio.
The experience we want FIZZ Fans to have is to remember an underrated song, and have a great time hearing it again on The FIZZ.
Hello, FIZZ Fans! It’s JY Kelley, asking for your support.
I love radio. I’ve wanted to be a DJ since the 5th grade, and I worked professionally on the air at several radio stations early in my career. Today, The FIZZ Radio is my passion project. I love “playing DJ” again just for fun.
The FIZZ Radio is hosted on Live365. They provide the technical wizardry that keeps us online, streaming all the retro pop and classic alternative music 24/7, from Hurricane Andrew’s CD collection. The fees we pay cover music licensing and royalties to the deserving artists. These include ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, GMR and AllTrack licenses in the United States, SOMEXFON and EMMAC/SACM for Mexico, as well as SOCAN and Re:Sound for Canada, and PPL and PRS for Music for the U.K. Our coverage is provided through finalized agreements, interim agreements, and consent decrees with the respective collection societies. These licenses are essential to running an online radio station, and they form a good portion of our monthly hosting fees.
